Facing the closure of the local arena in 1973, the Kincardine community banded together to maintain and then enhance its recreation footprint, according to former recreation director Keith Davidson .
“We had a vision for a multi-purpose facility, not just an arena,” Davidson said in a Sept. 5 interview. “We needed a pool. They were teaching swimming lessons down at the beach with the wind and the waves. We didn’t have a seniors’ centre and we needed a community hall.”

All of these elements and more came together in 1975 with the construction of the Kincardine and District Community Centre, later renamed the Davidson Centre for Kincardine and District.
