Former EastEnders star Rita Simons has said she’s ‘feeling like old self’ as she shared her transformation after filming her final Hollyoaks scenes.

It was announced in June that the Roxy Mitchell actress is leaving the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks just two years after joining it.

Saying at the time that she was moving back to London, Rita played the role of Joel Dexter's estranged mother Marie Fielding on the Channel 4 soap.

She said: “This beautiful, welcoming city has healed me more than I can ever explain. I will always have such love for my second home and the wonderful people of Liverpool.

"But now I feel strong, I can metaphorically walk on my own again, and I need to do just that. So It’s time to thank everyone at Hollyoaks for being the best tonic I could’ve asked for.”
