ST. PAUL — Gov. Tim Walz is beginning to signal his intention to run for a rare third term as governor of Minnesota.
At an unrelated press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Walz was asked if he’s leaning toward running for a third term.
“I think that’s a safe assumption,” he responded, adding that an official announcement on his decision will be made soon.
Walz has spent several months privately weighing a bid for 2026. His decision, originally expected after the conclusion of the legislative session, was delayed by the assassination of his friend and colleague Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and then again by the Annunciation Church shooting.
