LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Longtime Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw has died. She was 81.
Ashley Tinius, director of communications for the clerk's office, announced her passing on Wednesday. She said it happened in the morning, as Holsclaw was surrounded by her family.
Holsclaw, a Republican, served as the county clerk for more than two decades, first taking office in 1999.
She was elected for her seventh term in 2022 and would have served into 2027.
Her team touts her as being the first clerk to successfully implement private voting for visually impaired and physically challenged voters in Jefferson County.
"In this difficult time, our thoughts are with Ms. Holsclaw’s family, friends, coworkers, and all who were touched by her leadership and kindness," Tinius wrote in a news release.
