RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. —

As part of KCRA 3's 70th anniversary celebration, the station is highlighting organizations that make a difference in the community.

We’re starting with the Mercy Foundation, which was important to longtime KCRA 3 anchor Stan Atkinson, who died earlier this year at the age of 92 .

Sister Katherine Doyle and Kevin Duggan from the Mercy Foundation joined the broadcast to discuss the foundation's work.

Doyle said the foundation started in 1954 in response to the community to expand health care because of a critical need in Sacramento. In 1984, sisters found other needs beyond health care and began supporting all of its ministries to those in need.
