(KPTV) - Authorities are conducting a search and rescue operation in the Columbia River Gorge after reports of a missing hiker and the recovery of a body near Wiesendanger Falls on Tuesday evening.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call around 8:15 a.m. about an overdue hiker int he area. Shortly afterward, a second 911 caller reported finding a body in the same vicinity.

Deputies said it has not yet been confirmed whether the two cases are connected. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner is on the scene to investigate and will determine the cause of death and identity of the body.

Search and rescuer crews are helping the medical examiner with the recovery.
