Video above: It's peak hurricane season. What's keeping the tropics quiet?

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- The National Hurricane Center marked an area of the Atlantic Ocean for potential tropical development.

A tropical wave is expected to push off the coast of Africa in a couple of days, NHC forecasters said.

"Environmental conditions could support some slow development of the system over the weekend into early next week," according to the NHC tropical outlook.

The wave is expected to move to the west-northwest at 15 mph over the eastern Atlantic.

It has a near-zero percent chance of development over the next 48 hours. Forecasters gave it a 20% chance of development in the next week.
