KIRKLAND, Wash. — A Snohomish man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a violent attack that left a 78-year-old woman dead in Kirkland.

Fardin Salehiyan is accused of attacking a woman and her elderly mother on Sept. 4, just hours after police informed him that the woman reported Salehiyan sexually assaulted her, according to charging documents. Salehiyan stabbed both victims at least 12 times, police said.

Prosecutors are requesting $10 million bail for Salehiyan despite him having no prior criminal history.

"The facts of this crime indicate that he is likely to commit future violent offenses, and the substantial period of incarceration the defendant faces if convicted gives him a strong motivation to flee from justice," prosecutors wrote.
