Lulu Wang is adapting Katie Kitamura's novel Audition into a feature film, starring Lucy Liu and Charles Melton. Auditions follows "a celebrated actress (Liu) enjoying a charmed, bohemian life in Manhattan with her creative husband [...] until a mysterious young man (Melton) appears, claiming to be her long-lost son."

The project is backed by Laika Studios, which is best known for its animated and stop motion features (such as Coraline ). Laika is now branding into live action features as well.
