CINCINNATI (WXIX) - An investigation is underway after a deputy was involved in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening, according to the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred just before 6 p.m. at a home on East Augusta and Chatham Road after deputies responded to a welfare check on 34-year-old Justin Gillespie, Kentucky State Police said.

When deputies were speaking with Gillespie, he ran into the house toward the back door.

Deputies met Gillespie at the back of the residence and an altercation ensued before a deputy shot Gillespie.

Gillespie was pronounced dead despite life-saving measures attempted by Bracken County EMS.
