The municipal match is set: current City Commissioners Emily Dean and Andy Shirtliff will face off in the Helena mayoral election on Nov. 4 after the first primary election in 24 years.

Also, 4 of 5 City Commission candidates will advance to the November election: Melinda Reed, Ben Rigby, Haley McKnight and Shawn White Wolf.

“It's humbling, honestly,” Shirtliff said Tuesday night. “Now it's a matter of looking at the voting record, keeping the gloves up.”

“I’m really grateful for everyone who voted,” Dean said Wednesday morning. “I’ll keep working hard and doing my homework.”

The final preliminary results were released around midnight Tuesday. Although the counts won’t be official until Sept. 19, the mayoral and City Commission vote margins are wide enough to call the race.
