SCRANTON, Pa. — A panel of Lackawanna County judges is weighing whether a special election to replace former Commissioner Matt McGloin should remain on November’s ballot.
The judges heard roughly two hours of argument and testimony Wednesday morning on a petition made by the county Democratic Committee to keep the race to replace McGloin off the ballot. McGloin formally resigned in early March.
“Let the people speak,” said attorney Chris Caputo, who represents the county Election Board.
The panel – made up of President Judge James Gibbons and Judges Michael Barrasse and Mary Walsh Dempsey – made no ruling from the bench.
Should the special election move forward, the winner will serve the remainder of McGloin’s term, which expires at the end of 2027. If it does not, then an appointee
