About 50 people showed up with signs and music to the Sept. 9 Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board meeting calling for Board Member Carine Werner to apologize for comments she made during a previous board meeting and to resign.

For her part, Werner, whose name plate was in place in the board meeting room at Coronado High School, as though she was expected, never did show up.

“I’m here asking, with kindness, for Ms. Werner to apologize to Ms. Bilbery for the unkind things she said,” said Rebecca Ryerson, who was holding a sign that read, No Mean Girls. “And I’m here to support all of our SUSD administrators and want them to know that what they do matters to all of us parents and people of the community ...
