A man died early Wednesday morning in a single vehicle crash after fleeing an Odessa police officer investigating suspicious activity.

At approximately 12:57 a.m. Wednesday, an Odessa Police Department officer traveling northbound on Grandview observed suspicious activity at a local business in the 1100 block of North Grandview. The officer turned around to investigate and was flagged down by a citizen who reported that a male subject had just broken a window and entered the business, an OPD news release said.

According to the release, as the officer entered the business parking lot, he observed a male subject walking towards a white 2018 Corvette. The officer attempted to detain the subject, but he broke free and entered the vehicle before fleeing eastbound on 11th St. at a high rate of
