EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE/WCSC) - A Goose Creek man is facing drunk driving charges after being clocked speeding on an Indiana expressway, Evansville Police say.

Joseph M. Mercuri, 37, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving at an unreasonable high speed, according to Indiana court documents.

Evansville Police say they spotted a Nissan SUV traveling at 101 mph in a 50-mph speed zone on the Lloyd Expressway at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, WFIE reported .

Before the officer had the chance to turn on their red and blue lights, the driver rapidly decelerated and pulled onto the shoulder behind the police car, an affidavit states.

Police said the officer turned his vehicle around to get behind the SUV as part of normal procedure, walked up the driver’s door,
