Among the hundreds of other heroes who had given their lives, a new name was added at the bottom of the pink granite column.
“Steven Wayne Dillman” the inscription read. The Center Grove-area resident had given 38 years of his life to working in area fire departments — as well as many more offering his time and expertise in retirement. Now, nearly three years after his death, Dillman had his name on the Indiana Law Enforcement and Firefighters Memorial.
Dillman’s name was unveiled during the Indiana Fallen Firefighters Annual Remembrance ceremony on Sept. 4 at the downtown Indianapolis memorial. He was one of seven individuals honored during the event, which featured a large group of Dillman’s supporters, including firefighters from the White River Township and Greenwood fire departments
