WHITE PLAINS – A 47-year-old New York City man is in trouble with the FBI after he was stopped while driving erratically on Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating and found to be in possession of 15 kilos of cocaine.
US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, and Assistant Director of the New York FBI office, Christopher Raia, said Eddie Ruiz, Jr. was arrested after being stopped on the highway in the afternoon of August 29.
A State Police drug detecting K-9 signaled that it had detected the scent of narcotics in the vehicle and when troopers investigated, they found 15 one-kilogram packages of cocaine hidden.
As a result, Ruiz has been charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, which carries 10 years to life in federal prison if convicted.
