State, Valley leaders recall the morning of 9/11

On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists linked to the al-Qaeda group hijacked commercial airliners and used them as weapons in an attack on American soil.

The planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A third plane, likely targeting the White House or U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., crashed in Shanksville after passengers stormed the cockpit in an attempt to overtake the hijackers.
