Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, has died after being shot Wednesday at a Utah college event, President Donald Trump says.
Associated Press reporter Hannah Schoenbaum rushed to the scene.
“The campus is currently on lockdown. There are helicopters flying overhead, students rushing off campus, frantically calling their parents and loved ones,” Schoenbaum said.
Videos posted to social media from Utah Valley University show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent.
A single shot rings out and Kirk can be seen reaching up with his right hand as blood gushes from the left side of his neck.
The suspected shooter has not been arrested.
A person who was taken into custody was not the shooting suspect, according to a person familiar with the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly.
