LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A special town meeting in Longmeadow has resulted in a decision to build a new middle school, replacing both Williams and Glenbrook Middle Schools.

The decision was made after a highly-anticipated town vote, where 1,374 community members voted in favor of the project, while 402 opposed. The new school is projected to cost approximately $151 million, costing Longmeadow taxpayers $96 million total.

"We're fired up, we're very excited," said Marty O'Shea, Superintendent of Longmeadow Public Schools. "I think it was a historic moment for the community in Longmeadow, it really sets the course. It points us in the right direction for decades to come for middle school education in Longmeadow."
