Oregon politicians from both major parties were quick to voice their concerns Wednesday about political violence in the wake of the shooting of Donald Trump ally Charlie Kirk .

Kirk died Wednesday after being shot at a college event at Utah Valley University, Trump said. He was 31 and the CEO of conservative youth organization Turning Point USA .

Immediately before the shooting, Kirk was taking questions from an audience member about mass shootings and gun violence, the Associated Press reported.

Oregon’s two Democratic senators posted online that their thoughts are with Kirk’s family.

“Opposing views should never be suppressed with violence,” Sen. Jeff Merkley wrote on Threads.

“Political violence has no place in our country,” Sen. Ron Wyden said on X, formerly known as Twitter
