Montgomery County man wins $50K Powerball prize after chasing $1.4B jackpot

Germantown, MD – A Montgomery County resident who rarely plays the lottery walked away with a $50,000 Powerball prize after purchasing a ticket for the massive $1.4 billion jackpot drawing held on Sept. 3.

The man, an educator who typically only plays once a month or when the jackpot swells, decided to try his luck when he saw the record-setting prize making headlines. He picked up a few tickets at the Germantown Shoppers located at 18066 Mateny Road—and ended up landing a third-tier prize.
