JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff Keith Sexton discussed on Wednesday the decision to send weekend patrols from the Washington County, Tenn., Sheriff's Office (WCSO) through Downtown Johnson City during August, saying law enforcement is a team effort with citizens and the community.
"Any time you can get more people out in the community, whether it be downtown or wherever, visible presence is very important," Sexton said.
Sexton said the last downtown patrol by the WCSO took place over Labor Day weekend.
Sexton said he has received positive responses about patrols sent downtown.
"I've had people call me and thank me and say, 'look, this is how downtown should look. I felt safe to come downtown that time of night,'" Sexton said.
