KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) - A $7.8 million grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield is being used to build new features at a Kingsport park.

The BlueCross Healthy Place at Riverwalk Park will include improvements once construction is completed. Work on the park's new playground is underway.

The park will feature a playground for children of all ages, a walking trail, a basketball court, a 30x30 picnic shelter with tables, a pickleball court and a splash pad near the Holston River.

The BlueCross Foundation is providing a total of $7.8 million to fund the 8.8-acre community project.

Kingsport Parks and Recreation Superintendent Chassy Smiley said she hopes the community will make a day out of visits to Riverwalk Park.
