BELLEROSE, Queens (WPIX) – A manhunt is underway for the suspect accused of torturing and killing a couple in their Queens home on Monday, according to New York police.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said local, state, and federal authorities are teaming up to track down 42-year-old James McGriff, who has a criminal record that spans 30 years.
McGriff was allegedly going door-to-door in the Bellerose neighborhood, asking if he could charge his cellphone, according to authorities. At least one person refused.
Police said one of the victims, identified as 76-year-old Frank Olton, invited McGriff inside his home. Hours later, surveillance video showed McGriff leaving around 3 p.m. Soon after, the home caught on fire.
