The Steelers have been talking about running the football with authority ever since the end of the 2017 season, when Le’Veon Bell was still their primary running back. They have rarely achieved that, regardless of who the running back is. They had success in 2018 with James Conner, but since then, they have ranked outside the top 20 in yards per game, and a lot of that is because their run game has been mostly mediocre.
And that’s despite the best efforts of hiring run-minded offensive coordinators, drafting linemen in the first round, drafting a running back in the first round and even having the owner speak openly about his desire for his team to return to the roots of being a great running team.
The good news is the Steelers are also convinced they are the Steel Curtain of the 1970s,
