LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A young girl who was left paralyzed from the waist down after a road rage shooting near I-65 and the University of Louisville is launching her own advocacy campaign to help end gun violence in the Metro.

On Wednesday, 8-year-old Onyx Sands, surrounded by family and community leaders, announced the launch of Onyx Strong: Advocating for Safe and Healthy Kids. The campaign aims to use Onyx’s message to motivate other children to get involved in the fight against gun violence.

“I’m looking forward to seeing kids happy, seeing kids be brave, see kids think of the world a better place,” the young girl said.

Onyx will partner with community organizations, like Christopher 2X’s Game Changers, Kosair for Kids, and others, to educate people through public speaking event
