CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — Coryell County commissioners have scaled back their proposed property tax rate following intense public pushback at a recent hearing, where residents voiced concerns over financial mismanagement.

County Judge Roger Miller, said he left the meeting with "very mixed emotions," and called the citizens "very passionate."

Originally, the court had proposed a tax rate of 53 cents per $100 of property valuation. The newly proposed rate now sits at 47.5 cents per $100—still 7.81 cents above the no-new-revenue rate. To achieve the reduction, commissioners reviewed the budget line by line, making cuts across multiple departments.
