The AMJ Shorty Jenkins Classic kicks off Wednesday, bringing some of the world’s top curling talent to Cornwall from Sept. 10-14, at the Cornwall Curling Club.

“This is a great event … I played in it like 15 or 30 years ago,” said Colleen Jones, a renowned figure in the world of curling and broadcasting, and coach for Team Purcell, from Halifax, N.S.

The Shorty Jenkins, and the club, is so good. The atmosphere is so good. It’s nice to see the Shorty Jenkins continue. He was a pretty legendary icemaker, and this was used to kind of open the season for everybody.”

Team Purcell has been busy leading up to the Shorty Jenkins Classic, explained Jones. Her team, headed by skip Owen Purcell, has just returned from Edmonton where it completed a skills camp.
