A Brisbane teenager charged with terrorism offences allegedly had chemicals in his bedroom cupboard to build explosives, and possessed a video of a person being beheaded, among dozens of nationalist and racist violent extremist documents.
Max Belter, an 18-year-old from The Gap, in Brisbane’s north-west, faced court on Thursday, accused of possessing and controlling violent extremist material, which carried a maximum penalty of five years’ jail.
At his appearance in Brisbane Magistrates Court, Belter sat in watchhouse clothing, often with his head in his hands and looking at his parents in the public gallery.
Police had raided the 18-year-old’s home on Tuesday, seizing electronic devices containing a large amount of data, along with books allegedly associated with nationalist and racist
