OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Alex Swan discovered his interest for weather when he witnessed the aftermath of a tornado that just missed his hometown in Mississippi.

“I saw, semi trucks overturned on the highway, all of this damage,” Alex Swan, graduate student, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, said. “That’s when it really clicked that, you know, the weather is real and it has a real impact.”

That interest brought him here to Nebraska; his research at the UNL involves severe storms, and using drones to better track weather conditions.

Using drones is something Swan’s professor Dr. Adam Houston wants to see happen more, he said they can last longer than standard weather balloons.
