SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, dedicating time to highlight the impact pediatric cancer has on families and communities.

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 9,550 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer in 2025.

"If a child has cancer, their entire community is affected by it," says Dr. Ayobami Olanrewaju with the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at Ochsner LSU Health.

"This month helps us shed light on some of the stressors that those families face. And also help us empower the communities to take better care of these patients for us."
