HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont has announced that all U.S. and state flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Sunday.
According to a release from Lamont's office, the order is in accordance with a proclamation President Donald Trump ordering flags throughout the United States in memory of Charlie Kirk, a conservative influencer who was shot and killed at an event in Utah on Wednesday afternoon.
“Political violence of any kind has no place in our country and is never acceptable,” Gov. Lamont said in the release. “The tragic attack on Charlie Kirk today is absolutely awful. My prayers are with him and his family.”
Flags in Connecticut will also be lowered on Thursday, Sept. 11, in remembrance of the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
