HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A project is underway in Huntington to appease community members frustrated with being left in the dark.

Huntington City Council member Linda Blough said one of the top issues residents in the Highlawn area voice concerns over is non-working streetlights.

“It’s a little scary,” she said. “A lot of our local blocks are dark. It’s going to be getting dark earlier. I’m not saying it’s unsafe, but it appears to be unsafe.”

That’s why the city launched an initiative called Project Lights On.

Last week, community members checked for streetlights that were out in the Highlawn area and reported them. More than 40 were found not working.
