BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A leader of the violent Waterbury -based 960 street gang was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday in Bridgeport federal court.

According to a report from the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, 27-year-old Waterbury resident Zaekwon McDaniel also received a mandatory 10-year consecutive term of imprisonment for offenses related to his leadership of the gang.

Court documents and statements noted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Waterbury Police Department have been investigating numerous Waterbury gangs, including the 960 gang.
