KENTUCKY (WKYT) - Some Kentucky health departments are calling the federal government’s handling of this season’s COVID-19 vaccines confusing.

The timing is not good as we are entering respiratory illness season, and local health officials say COVID numbers are on the rise.

Dr. Steve Davis, the medical director at the Lexington Fayette County Health Department, says in his 51 years practicing medicine, he has never seen confusion like we are seeing from the federal government on COVID-19 vaccinations.

Dr. Davis says Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. dissolved an advisory committee, and those changes have delayed the COVID-19 vaccine from getting to local health departments.

All of this is happening while more people are coming down with the virus.
