WILLIAMS, Ariz. — An iconic Route 66 restaurant in northern Arizona is back in business.

Rod’s Steakhouse, a Williams landmark since 1946, has reopened after sitting closed for the past five years.

The steakhouse first fired up its grill nearly 80 years ago, serving travelers making their way along Route 66 in flashy Fords and shiny Chevys. For many, its glowing neon cow sign became a beacon for hungry road-trippers.

“I find relics of Rod’s Steakhouse all over the country. People sell them on eBay. You’ll see it on movie sets,” said new owner Tom Kennelly. “I’m actually the fourth owner of this property over the last 80 years.”

Kennelly purchased the restaurant earlier this year and undertook a major renovation, upgrading the kitchen, plumbing, and electrical. But he says the goal
