WARE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The former Ware Fire Chief will serve 2 years of administrative probation after being caught embezzling more than $28,000.

Former Chief Thomas Coulombe was indicted by a grand jury in 2023 for submitting false and inflated reimbursement requests to the town of Ware in addition to stealing money from three regional non-profit fire associations.

He has paid back around $2,600 to the town and more than $17,000 among the three nonprofits and will not serve any time in jail. Coulombe served as Ware’s Fire Chief from 2002 to 2019.
