The director of The Ecosystems Center at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole will deliver a presentation on coastal salt marshes on Tuesday, September 23, at St. John’s Church, Sandwich. The free event, led by MBL senior scientist Anne Giblin, will begin at 7 PM in the parish hall at 159 Main Street.
Giblin will talk about complex salt marsh ecosystems, how they were used and modified by early colonists, and how modifications made in the 1700s continue to impact marshes today. She will also discuss how marshes have kept up with sea-level rise in the past and why they are threatened now by more rapidly rising sea levels and coastal development.
