Library Director Diane M. Costagliola spoke about sewer issues at the library during a meeting of the Public Library Board of Trustees on Tuesday , September 9 .

Costagliola said staff had to close the library early on September 4 due to a “major sewer backup” in the upstairs bathrooms.

She said the library also had to close early on a day in early July due to a similar problem.

Costagliola said plumbers came right away, the affected areas were disinfected, and town workers are trying to pinpoint the cause of the issues.

The upstairs bathrooms have since been reopened, she said.

“What's interesting is those bathrooms have always been there and I have a few people on staff who have worked here for close to 20 years, we’ve never had an issue like this,” she said.
