SOUTH CAROLINA (WJBF) — Three South Carolina troopers hit in just over a month — two of them in a matter of days. Troopers say the job is always risky. Every stop or call puts them feet from speeding cars.

"Cause you have, on average, 3,000, 3,500-pound vehicle traveling a high rate of speed," Master Trooper M.R. Ridgeway said.

This summer alone — Trooper Dennis Ricks was killed. Troopers Mitchell Williams Junior and Wayne LaBounty were both struck while working. Mitchell knows the pain firsthand — after being hit by a tractor-trailer years ago.

"Thankfully I was not severely injured and I got to go home to my wife that same night. But you know, it's something that's affected my life and it's affected many troopers over the years and law enforcement officers and emergency personnel," he
