MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — News 5 has learned more about the St. Stephens Road billboard that has drawn controversy over its imagery.
Michael Lewis, better known by his stage name "Square Tight Mike," recently announced the revamp of a popular comedy show, "Laugh Live Love," after 10 years.
The billboard in question featured an image of two Black clowns that read, "It's time to get the clowns out!"
According to Lewis, the billboard was meant to be an advertisement for the show, scheduled for Oct. 12 at the Black Wolf Event Hall.
"We're bringing the clowns out for this one!" he said in his announcement that aired on 93.1 BLX.
Lewis is also the owner of Bumble Bee Billboards, known for blunt messaging on potentially controversial topics.
