CINCINNATI, Ohio — Bengals coach Zac Taylor knew about Liam Coen well before the NFL did and before Coen got his chance to be a head coach with the Jaguars.

Coen was an offensive coordinator at Maine, and he caught Taylor’s eye in film study one day. Now, the two will be on opposite sidelines when Taylor’s Bengals host Coen’s Jaguars on Sunday at Paycor Stadium.

“I was aware of him before I met him,” Taylor explained to reporters during his Wednesday press conference, recounting how, while coaching at the University of Cincinnati, he stumbled upon Coen’s work through routine game preparation. “We were getting ready to play somebody and they were playing Maine. The tape was Maine’s offense versus whoever we were playing... It was a really well coordinated offense.”
