After testing hundreds of TVs in my career (including some of the best TVs ever made), I guess you could say I’ve gotten pretty set in my ways when it comes to TV settings.

Depending on the brand, the features and the display hardware, TVs come with a wide range of performance- and software-related settings. But there are a number of settings that, in some form or another, make an appearance on most TVs. Of these settings, there are a handful that I scramble to disable as soon as possible.

I won’t deny that, depending on the viewer, these settings have their place. But if you’re hoping to make the most of a new TV right out of the box, these are the settings I’d disable immediately.
