Today marks the 24th anniversary of the most egregious act of terrorism in modern history. Sept. 11 should be a solemn occasion to honor the more than 3,000 innocent lives lost in an assault on our country’s very foundation. Instead, America finds itself mourning yet another act of political violence, this time the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was gunned down Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. Video from the event shows him mid-sentence when a single shot struck his neck, sending horrified students and attendees fleeing.
