STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you graduated from St. John’s University on Grymes Hill within the last 14 years, chances are you’ve come across the dignified display commemorating the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

The annual exhibition is the labor of love of former professor Paulette Hughes, a West Brighton resident, who has painstakingly preserved years of student submissions and historical articles pertaining to the terror attacks on the United States.

These displays showcase the personal entries of students tasked by Hughes with taking a creative approach to remember that fateful day, whether it be penning a letter of thanks to first responders or producing a poster board to memorialize those who lost their lives.
