Sunshine and dry weather return to Massachusetts on Thursday, thanks to an area of high pressure moving in over southern New England.

Thursday is expected to be the warmest day of the week so far, with temperatures well into the 70s and approaching 80. The sunshine and warmth are expected to continue through Saturday, with temperatures remaining in the 70s, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

After a dry Saturday, rain is expected to return to the forecast to close out the weekend.

On Sunday, a robust shortwave, essentially a disturbance in the atmosphere, is expected to round an area of low pressure and drop through southern New England, increasing the chances for rain.
