WASHINGTON — Update: 911 service has been restored.

Some 911 calls were dropping or not connecting to call takers Thursday morning, the Office of Unified Communications said just before 8 a.m.

D.C.'s Office of Unified Communication (OUC), which houses 911 dispatch, has faced several issues, from severe staffing shortages to delayed response times. On a few occasions, first responders have been sent to wrong addresses.

A 5-month-old infant died while a family waited 17 minutes for an ambulance because a forced system update caused computer-aided dispatch to fail in August 2024. Days later, computers failed again for about 20 minutes.
