SMITHFIELD – A recent ordinance change to the inclusionary zoning law is intended to attract potential developers away from large-scale, high-density mega-condo projects, said Councilor Angelica Bovis, but will it work?
During the Town Council meeting last week, Bovis recommended the change to the inclusionary zoning ordinance that decreases the affordable housing component from 33 percent to 20 percent.
Inclusionary zoning is the ordinance that requires the inclusion of affordable housing as part of a development to allow for a density bonus of market rate units based on the number of affordable housing units.
