MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired by the network after he implied that conservative political activist Charlie Kirk 's actions led to his own assassination during a live newscast moments after the shooting took place.

“You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place,” said Dowd, who ran as a Democrat for Texas lieutenant governor in 2021. “That’s the unfortunate environment we’re in.”

Dowd also suggested that Kirk could've been shot by a supporter who fired their gun in "celebration."

“We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration,” Dowd told anchor Katy Tur during the newscast. “We have no idea. We don’t know any of the full details of this.”
